Currently Reading: The Rithmatist

The Rithmatist by Brandon Sanderson is a fantastic YA addition to Sanderson’s collection. I don’t read a lot of YA, but as Sanderson is my favorite author I couldn’t not read it.

I have been impressed with how strong the worldbuilding is. Themes and ideas aren’t simplified. And the magic system is just as detailed and comprehensive as Sanderson’s other books. I love the idea of the two-dimensional drawings that come to life. If my drawings and sketches could come to life, I’d be thrilled. But it isn’t as simple as just drawing. Sanderson does a great job of creating a magic system with rules, boundaries, complications, and power.

If you haven’t read it, pick it up and join Joel as he lives in the world of chalkings, the two-dimensional drawings that come to life. You’ll be just as impressed with The Rithmatist as you have been with Sanderson’s other books/series. Don’t neglect this one because it’s a different age grouping than The Stormlight Archive and Elantris.
